193.14307, 2012
Pine, gypsum, paint

193.14307 was made in response to piles of discarded furniture and other items commonly found at the curbside, usually near the end of the semester on or near a college campus. Pieces are often discarded simply because the tenants are moving. Oftentimes, items are moved from a dwelling and either tossed in the trash or into a moving vehicle. The stamp on the back, slightly misaligned and sloppily printed, raises the question: is this piece of  furniture worthy of a second look? The piece appears to have come off of a conveyer belt and then stamped with no thought as to whether or not someone would display this away from a wall with the back easily seen. However, the front of the piece is presentable, if only to serve its purpose as a façade, possibly for a pre-determined amount of time. Is this what it was for the person who threw it out—a façade? With the aforementioned in mind, I asked myself: would it ever be possible for this piece to remain in one place and not move on? Would this lead to less waste and a greater appreciation of this piece of furniture? These questions led me to investigate the wall form in a series titled Half Wall.
