Celebrating the Holidays

Eiseman garments were an important part of the holidays for generations of American families.  Intended to make Christmas festive and formal for the whole family, matched Eiseman garments helped create appealing and wonder-producing family memories and photographs. Generations of treasured holiday cards featuring families wearing matched Eiseman clothing document this practice.

Holiday garments sometimes even framed the child as a gift, as exemplified by the iconic 1950s package dress that wraps the wearer in white Egyptian cotton broadcloth tied with a red ribbon and labeled with Eiseman’s signature embroidered handwriting personalizing them as, “A present for … (child’s name)” or “Your Christmas package…”.  Dressing children in festive formalwear, such as a velvet boy’s shortall with a lace collar or matched tuxedo dresses and shortalls for siblings, reflects the parental desire to give greater meaning and importance to gatherings and traditions.  Fine holiday outerwear, such as a black velveteen jacket with a detailed loose flower appliqué, was perfect for attending events outside the home like a Nutcracker ballet performance, religious service, or holiday party.
