Luxury for the Lollipop Set

In 1956 Florence Eiseman won the Swiss Fabrics Award, an honor emblematic of her early commitment to, and creative use of, luxury materials. Fine fabrics were central to her design process as well as the quality of her clothing. Each season, Eiseman made trips to fabric shows in Europe that would then inspire her styles. Advertisements throughout the company’s history highlight “Swiss Lanella,” “Egyptian cotton,” “French piqué,” and “Scottish plaids.” Luxury fabrics invited intricate designs that reward close inspection: embroidered multicolored dots on a dress of Swiss cotton batiste, a hand-made flower rosette applied to a dress of fine wale piqué eyelet, and a green vine woven delicately into a dress of Swiss cotton eyelet lace.
