Corner Cupboard Tidewater Virginia, 1735-1745 Yellow pine, tulip poplar, and black walnut Catalog no. 150 This small but well proportioned corner cupboard is one of the earliest southern examples of the form. Its heavy muntins, turned ball-form feet, and foliated iron hinges suggest a date in the 1720s, but the original brass escutcheons point to production a decade or two later. The cupboard survives in remarkable condition. The fragile feet are intact, and the original bright blue paint was revealed when several later layers of paint and varnish were removed. | ||
