Bracket Clock Movement partially by Thomas Walker Fredericksburg, Virginia, 1765-1775 Mahogany with yellow pine Catalog no. 166 Only two pre-Revolutionary Virginia bracket clocks are recognized, both made by Thomas Walker of Fredericksburg. More widely known for his manufacture of tall clocks, Walker was Fredericksburg's most prominent and prolific early clockmaker. His artistic talents can be seen in the high quality of the engraved decoration on the front and back plates of this bracket clock. Like most other southern makers, Walker used some imported parts, although the dial on this clock represents local production. The mahogany and yellow pine case probably was built by a Fredericksburg-area artisan too. Possible candidates include Walker's brothers, Robert and William, who worked there in the cabinet trades. | ||
