Unknown videographer, Haël Werkstätten footage,ca. 1927. Digitally transferred from 16mm film. Courtesy of Dr. Frances Marks.
This video footage was filmed at the Haël Workshop around 1927, when the company’s success allowed it to construct a caretaker’s apartment, offices, and exhibition rooms. The footage shows the setting of the pottery in the rural German landscape, including the on-site living quarters and the outdoor storage of ceramic molds. Inside the factory, male workers pour slip (liquid clay) into mold forms, and stylish women with cropped hair glaze and decorate the ceramics. You can see Haël products beyond what are on view in this exhibition.
