Five Sounds, 2002

These pencil lines trace the point of engagement between the will of the material and the will of the maker during the turning event. Curiously, as I reflect back on these, I remember clearly the sound each process produced. I therefore have titled these drawings Five Sounds. –GP
Made at a residency hosted by the Wood Turning Center in Philadelphia, these drawings are a response to the proposition that a work be made using a particular tool (the lathe). The resulting drawings capture the nature of workmanship, which Peteran sees as the inevitable triangular struggle between maker, tool, and object.
