Figure 59  Casement shutter (one of a pair) in the Coeymans House, 1717-1723. (Photo, Gavin Ashworth.) A cruciform oak casement (kruiskozijn) frames the oak and pine shutters. The shutters are constructed with boards and two cleats. The casement is painted white, and the shutters have vermilion outer fields, verdigris inner fields, and white intermediate bands to suggest moldings.
