The painted decoration is by the same hand as the decoration on two related kasten. Minor structural variations among the three kasten are not significant enough to suggest that they are the products of three different joiners. The decoration on this example has a yellow cast from decayed, semi-opaque layers of later resin coatings. Originally the painted decoration would have been a cold, blue-gray color.
