This fragment of a tankard was found during the removal of a Victorian porch from a ca. 1680–1700 house in Mt. Sinai, Long Island. It is similar in all ways to the mugs illustrated in fig. 3. A similar tankard appears in the 1837 William Sydney Mount painting The Long Story.
