Thorley.” Mark on reverse: printed Portland vase above “Wedgwood / England.” Thorley started to work as a painter at Wedgwood in 1906. His first “apprentice” plate was dated Nov. 4, 1906. This plate shows a view of Venice. Thorley kept it in his possession for many years, and it was found in 1985 when his studio and house were cleared.
