The plate bore a bust of Frederick the Great and the slogan “SUCCESS TO THE KING OF PRUSSIA.” Beginning in 1758 the British supported Prussia against the Austrians and their French allies. This plate was owned by a family residing at 418 King Street, one block from the Carlyle House, and its fragments were discarded in a privy. |
