On April 15, 2017, Dr. Laura Johnson of Historic New England offered an intimate Salon on Victorian gems. Johnson decodes the meanings of gemstones and "posy" rings, and the secret messages that nineteenth-century men and women could spell out through the symbolic meanings of gems and flowers. Her presentation, entitled “Mottos, Messages, and Gem Lore in Victorian Jewelry,” is part of The Chipstone Foundation’s occasional Salon series held in Mrs. M.-—’s Cabinet.
